Proposed Memorial

The Sherman tank at Slapton Sands is a daily reminder to all of us of the tragedy of Exercise Tiger.  Around the tank are other smaller memorials dedicated to the various American forces that participated.  Further along Slapton Sands a memorial placed after the Second World War by American forces as a gratitude to  local people who had to evacuate their homes so that the practise D-day landings could go ahead.

What is missing is a memorial that names those who lost their lives during Exercise Tiger.

It is hoped that through public donations and fund raising sufficient funds can be raised so that in 2006 a memorial naming all those who lost their lives can be constructed, placed and dedicated in a ceremony at the tank.

Years are moving on, not many survivors are still alive, and it would be marvellous if this could all be arranged for them, and the families of those who either died during or after Exercise Tiger.

Progress with this will be advised on this website.

Please, we ask you to make a contribution. You can either do this through the Books & Donations page on this web site or by sending a cheque made payable to "Slapton Sands Memorial Tank Limited" to Slapton Sands Memorial Tank Limited, 2 Duke Street Court, Bridge Street, Kingsbridge, Devon TQ7 1HX, UK. Alternatively if you would like to make a donation by other means or can offer help, please contact us through the Contact Us page on this website.

Thank you, your donation towards the memorials is very much appreciated.
